We decided to make a bed with real hardwood after looking at many poorly made versions (including those at the more respected/popular vendors). The structure was fashioned from 2 x 4 and 2 x 6 red oak from the local lumber yard. The joints are large dovetails created by a very interesting process that included a cheap router table in the garage and a few choice words. The bed has been wonderful (we are big fans of the memory foam matress). This will be done again but with a different species, better equipment, a little taller leg and a more natural finish.
